Some stunning examples in this group of Lizard Canaries. and Below some of the countries TOP lizard men's birds.. ![]() ![]() Stan Bolton's Stunning Broken Cap Gold Hen... ![]() One of Stan Bolton's Fantastic Clear Cap Silver Hens... | Where it all started for me;As a young 'un i kept and bred various british birds including Bullies,Goldies,Greenies and a handful of Border canaries,i've even kept the odd bird of prey (kestrel + buzzard),after deciding to get back into birdkeeping after a decade or so break i quickly built up a small stud of Glosters and added a handful of mosaic,and agate mosaics to stop things getting monotonous.. I was introduced to lizard canaries by Kevin Skinner and Albert Hallam(Bless ya guys) and after having a reasonably successful breeding season with the 4 pairs of lizards i soon made up my mind that these "Mooned 'Uns" were the birds i wanted to pursue,so i made arrangements and sold my 30 pairs of glosters and mosaics to concentrate solely on lizard canaries to make a start with the dozen or so i'd bred.. After obtaining some fantastic birds from some of the Uk's leading breeders i'll be putting down between 20 - 30 Hens, in pairs/trios.. To show or not to show;Over the decades i've kept/bred birds never once have i attended one or attempted to show my birds,i don't know wether it just didn't appeal to me or i couldn't be bothered,i suppose i was just happy keeping and breeding healthy birds and getting enough enjoyment out of it not to seek more from the hobby.. But... After being persuaded to give it a go i entered some birds into the 2011 National at Stafford and became instantly hooked,not only did it open my eyes to a whole new world of birdkeeping but i learnt almost instantly what the birds i'd bred were lacking and had me out of the comfort zone and full steam ahead into improving my stock/stud .. I was hooked and have attended as many shows as i could since travelling far and wide,once one of my birds had won that 1st rossette they soon came thick and fast,so for a 1st year showing i'm chuffed to bits.. I've met some great lizard "folk" from all over the country and have seen some wonderful lizards benched to aspire to ,everyone treats everyone as equal and you wouldn't believe the amount of respect amongst fellow breeders without experiencing it hands on..
Whats in store for 2012 ? I know what i need to improve and have a good idea how to reach my goals but "Mother Nature" will no doubt decide my fortunes in the hobby,as long as i'm trying to improve each year and still buzzing everytime i go to open my bird sheds each morning,i can't ask for any more from such a fantastic hobby ...

A special Thanks;
Getting up at 4.30am 5 days a week as a truck driver isn't exactly bird friendly all year round, so i suppose i ought to mention my better half .. Mandy who every weekday morning before work checks my birds are ok and supplies them fresh water and makes sure the seed hoppers are full,AND provides them with a lil eggfood or greens when asked to do so .. BLESS ER' ..
Roll on breeding when i get to spend an hour each morning before work and some time after work in there to give her a well deserved break from some of the chores of being a birdkeepers other half ...
